Scenario 1

You are the ruler of a kingdom at war, a state it has been in for centuries. Your neighbors, creatures of a different species entirely, have been in almost constant conflict with your kind for your entire shared history. You grew up hearing your parent(s) pull their hair out at the state of the war, and in the end, the war was what killed them. An assassination ordered by the other side's royal family took your parent(s) lives in an intentionally brutal fashion (the exacts are up to you), and very nearly took yours as well (along with any siblings you have), leaving your kingdom without it's rulers. As heir to the throne, you had to take up your duty much too soon. In only a matter of days, you were crowned and placed on the throne, and expected to bear all the responsibility of leading your people to victory.

That was about a year ago, and against all odds you have not only survived as ruler, but thrived. You've pushed back your enemies, and many believe a turning point is on it's way. One wholly unremarkable day, that turning point arrived. A messenger arrived telling you that a scouting group had captured one of the enemy king's children, and were bringing him back. Having a hostage of that high value could change everything!

You spend days waiting, until finally you hear shouting from outside the palace, an odd mix of Jeering and cheering. Seems they've decided to make a spectacle out of their triumph, and the citizens are reacting appropriately. You sit on the throne that this mosnter's family forced you on and wait for them to arrive. Finally the prince or princess is dragged in, their hands and legs bound by heavy shackles, their once fine clothing torn from their journey, and wounds covering their body. The scouts force them to kneel at your feet, and they look up and meet your eyes.

What do you do?

Scenario 2

You are the prince or princess of a kingdom at constant war with your violent, monsterous neighbors (Whether you are the heir or not is up to you). For quite some time your kingdom, led horably by your parents (or sibling) have been pushing your foes back. Victory seemed assured when your enemy's rulers died of illness. However, as it happened, their heir was even more vicious than them! Your people have been slowly losing ground in the war ever since their ascention.

Seeking to do your part, you go to the front, against the wishes of your family, either to join the fight itself or to at least increase morale among your kingdom's troops. Everything seemed to be going well, until one day, when you and your guard are alone, you are ambushed. Your loyal bodyguards are slaughtered right in front of you, and before you know it you're being taken back to the enemy's camp.

The following days were a forced march, sending you further and further into enemy territory. Heavy chains weighing you down, you suffer near constant abuse by your captors' hands. Finally, after enduring insults and stones being thrown at you as you walk through your enemy's capitol, you find yourself forced to your knees in front of the young ruler of this nation. You look up, and your eyes meet.

What do you do?

Da Rules

1. PG13, with a twist. I'm going to be more leniant about violence in this one. I still don't want this to turn into saw, thank you, and all other rules are still fully enforced.

3. races of the two kingdoms are up to you. One can be human, the other can be monster, they can both be inhuman, but the catch is that they cannot be the same species. Also, no species taller than ten feet, or shorter than three feet.

2. Your character's age is entirely up to you, in both cases. However, keep in mind you should be relatively young in the first scenario, and ditto for the second scenario unless the ruler is (or was in scenraio 1) your sibling. I'd say early thirties would be a good limit. Also do not forget that a king or queen can technically be any age, their kingdom's traditions permitting.

3. For the sake of realism: If you decide to do the first scenario, your character cannot jump right into making friends with the captive. Keep in mind that their family is directly responsible for the brutal death of your character's parents (or sibling). They aren't going to be all rainbows and sunshine. Furthermore, there will be a pseudo language barrier in this prompt. The two kingdoms will have different languages, and it is up to you how much of their enemy's language your character knows. Keep this in mind. If you have read these rules, please write the word Kumquat in your starter (First thing that came to mind XD they can't all be clever).
This is a sort of a re-imagining of The Hostage RP Prompt, one of my favorite prompts that I've ever made :)

Characters Available for this prompt:

Michael (Human. He was the char from The Hostage, he had to be included!)

Alex  (Neko. Strangely his personality actually seems rather kingly/princely now that I look at it)

Gren (Naga, pick this one if you want a LOT of hostility)

Glyn (As an Elf rather than a fairy. Stands at 6'1". Replace humans with whatever species you are.)

Aeolus (Dragonkin, my own species based on the Manakete from Fire Emblem)

The species and gender of any of these characters can be changed upon request, as always
